Vita/Bio

Miguel-Ángel Verdugo is the first Spanish university professor who holds a chair specifically dedicated to the field of disability.  His early interest was in teaching teachers (specializing in Speech Therapy) and then in Psychology, where he received the degree and Ph.D. from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.  Finally, he earned a Masters in Education at Columbia University, New York.

As a University Professor at the University of Salamanca, his activities include:   

  • Coordinating the doctoral program "Progress and Prospects in Research on Disability."
  • Directing the Masters program "Integration of Persons with Disabilities."
  • Directing the Institute on Community Integration (HOME) and the Information Service on Disability (SID), University of Salamanca and the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (IMSERSO).
  • Magazine Century Zero runs of FEAPS.
  • Serving as Vice Chancellor of Research at the University of Salamanca.
  • Member of the International Committee of the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD)
  • Adjunct Research Associate, Schiefelbusch the Institute for Life Span Studies / Beach Center on Families and Disability, University of Kansas (USA)
