Vita/Bio

 

Dr. Julieta P. Hernandez, Clinical Social Work Supervisor and researcher in the Department of Pediatrics, Divisions of Social Work and Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Immunology. She obtained her MSW degree from SUNY at Stony Brook and the Ph.D. from the Florida International University. Dr. Hernandez completed a post graduate certification on Infant Mental Health from the FSU Harris Institute for IMH. Dr. Hernandez holds llicenses to practice clinical social work in FL and NY. She specializes in children & families, pediatric HIV and other chronic illnesses, and trauma- , relationship-based interventions with young children. Since 2003, Dr. Hernandez has provided clinical supervision to master level social workers pursuing licensure and social work graduate students interning in the different health clinics in the UM Mailman Center for Child Development. She has worked for UM Dept. of Pediatrics since 1999 as the Social Worker in the Mailman Center's Early Steps Program evaluative team. Her prior experience includes an extensive administrative career track directing several community-based children's programs in the areas of mental health and child welfare in Suffolk County, New York.
