Vita/Bio
Clare Irwin is completing her 25th year as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments. She represents the Rhode Island Vision Education and Services Program (RIVESP), a project supported by the Paul V. Sherlock Center on Disabilities at Rhode Island College. Previous to her work as a certified TVI, she was employed at Rhode Island Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist. She began her teaching career in New Orleans, Louisiana. Clare has been actively involved in program development in Rhode Island for many years and is on the Peer Leadership Team serving RIVESP. She was instrumental in the creation and the on-going implementation of Rhode Island's strategic plan for the provision of comprehensive educational services for infants, toddlers, children and youths who are visually impaired. She is the State Liaison to the Northeast Regional Center for Vision Education (NERCVE), collaboratively working with NERCVE and the Rhode Island DOE through the Sherlock Center to attract and retain highly qualified personnel through induction and professional development.
