Center for Disabilities and Development University of Iowa Childrens Hospital - Iowa City, Ia Nurse Manager: (October 2011 present)

Direct responsibilities: Lead and manage functions to assure that health services, medical care, medical/health professions education, and research programs are delivered effectively and efficiently.
Planning, organizing, directing, evaluating, and improving health care operations, clinical education programs and research programs of clinical and health service departments. Key areas of responsibility include human resources management, financial management, operations, standards of care, regulatory compliance, quality and patient satisfaction, patient care/services delivery, planning and goal management, communication/collaboration, educational programs, and research programs.

Provide clinical and managerial leadership in overseeing all aspects of patient care in the CDD Healy Outpatient Clinic. Manage fiscal resources, serves as liaison with hospital and community partners, lead performance improvement initiatives, participate in the strategic planning process, oversee patient and family teaching and manages staff training, competency and performance and ensure programs are in compliance with institutional policies and guidelines and JCAHO standards. Fulfill the Incident Commander position of the Reunification Center during Emergency Preparedness situations. Oversee Health Information Management and Clinic Operations departments. Direct reports include all the nursing staff, the manager of Clinic Operations department, the manager of Health Information Management department, and the Medical Staff clerical assistant.

Served as a member of the executive team with following department and responsibilities:


Medical Specialty Group, Home Health/Public Health, Hospice Services, Pharmacy, Physical/Occupational Therapy, Food and Nutrition Services, Cancer Care & Infusion Center, Employee/Occupational Health, Diabetes Education, Mahaska med Spa, Laboratory, Radiology, LDI Team Champion, Organizational Excellence Team, MHP Communication Team (leader),AIDET Trainer.

Direct responsibilities: organizational strategic planning, annual budgets, performance evaluations, selection and termination of director level employees, create annual marketing plans for departments within Outreach Service, approve annual goals on LEM within Outreach Services, report to and attend monthly board of Trustee meetings and bi-monthly Advisory Board meetings. Involved in the hospice house project from the initial question to build, to the open house for the public. Due to organizational growth, some of my departments moved under a new senior leader in March 2011.

Medical Specialty Group Director (May 2004-August 2006)

Direct responsibilities: Manager of Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Urology, OB/GYN, and Family Practice clinics, and the Cancer Care & Infusion Center. We opened Mahaska Med Spa in September 05. Coordination, facilitation and trouble shooting of all satellite specialty clinics held at MHP. Handled all managerial duties associated with policies, procedures, employees etc. We received the Press Ganey Compass Award in November of 04 for notable increases in our Medical Practice Survey score for patient satisfaction. Scores ranked in the 99th percentile four out of five consecutive bi-annual reporting periods.

Cancer Care & Infusion Center Director (December 2000 May 2004)

Direct responsibilities: Started new out-patient oncology clinic from ground level. I created policy/procedures and forms for out-patient oncology department. Trained RNs to prepare and administer cytotoxic drugs. Growth of the department led to a name change to Cancer Care & Infusion Center. Presented and educated community on breast cancer and self-breast exams. Chair for American Cancer Society Mahaska County Relay for Leve event in 2001, 02, 03.

Emergency Room Registered Nurse (August December 2000)

Responsible for direct patient care of all types and ages of ER patients from simple to trauma.
