Lynette Lau, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in early childhood development and mental health, family functioning, and stress, trauma, and resilience. Dr. Lau completed her undergraduate training at UCLA, where she majored in Psychology and minored in both Applied Developmental Psychology and Education. During this time, Dr. Lau learned about important issues affecting the lives of exceptional individuals and completed practicum experiences which allowed her first-hand experiences with typically developing children and children on the autism spectrum. Dr. Lau continued her graduate education at UCLA, where she completed her dissertation on the influence of the interaction between the serotonin transporter gene variant and parenting stress on parent personality and parenting behavior, and received her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology.

With regards to clinical training, Dr. Lau completed an externship at UCLA TIES for Families, and her predoctoral APA-accredited internship followed by a one-year post-doctoral fellowship at Children's Institute, Inc. (CII). Through these clinical training experiences, Dr. Lau developed expertise and a passion for working as part of an interdisciplinary team to support children and families who have experienced complicated trauma and/or who are involved in the foster care system. She is trained in several evidence-based protocols, including Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), Reflective Parenting Program (RPP), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS), Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Dr. Lau is also trained in conducting developmental and psychoeducational assessments for children. She provided assessment and consultation/liaison services at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center High Risk Infant Follow-Up clinic for children through the California Children's Services (CCS) program, and currently conducts developmental and psychoeducational assessments for children with suspected neurodevelopmental disabilities at the UCLA Medicine-Pediatrics Comprehensive Care Center (MPCCC) in Santa Monica.
