Writing Evaluation Sections for Proposals: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Sunday, November 8, 2009 9:00 am - 11:30 am

Location: Meeting Room 4

Session Description

Evaluation is receiving more attention by funders, government agencies, and policy makers. With this attention comes an increased call for proposals to include more rigorous evaluation designs. Gone are the days of simply listing a project's inputs and outputs. But what constitutes "good" evaluations?

Using examples of evaluation sections from a variety of proposals, this workshop will explore:

  1. current models and approaches to evaluation
  2. good evaluation questions and other fundamentals that will guide you through the wild west of evaluation jargon
  3. the importance of fit or alignment between project goals, evaluation questions, and relevant evidence or data
  4. how to design evaluations that provide useful information to both the funder and the project staff, and
  5. when and how to work with an evaluation or statistical consultant.
