Session Description

The disability movements of Self-Advocacy, Self-Determination, and Supporting Families are interconnected. Individuals with disabilities and families (parents, siblings, and extended family members) are the key leaders to transform state and local systems to be person-centered and provide person-directed community supports and services. This presentation will highlight UCEDD initiatives to prepare individuals with disabilities, parents, and siblings to be leaders in the movement of Self-Determination, redesigning systems to be supportive to individuals and families. The presentation will emphasize opportunities for fellow UCEDDs and LENDs to participate in these activities. Participants will also receive tools to advance Self-Advocacy, Self-Determination, and Support to Families in their state and at the national level.
