AUCD - Trainee Networking Event

<< Back to Program

Sunday, December 2, 2012 4:45 PM - 6:15 PM

Location: Columbia 6

Session Description

This event is specifically for trainees to network with fellow trainees from around the country and meet people who work in their field of interest. Several activities are scheduled for this session.

  • 4:45pm: Early Career Leaders
Hear from outstanding network young professionals who will speak to trainees about the importance of networking, what qualities young leaders should have, what is a good "elevator speech", and the importance of making connections--wherever a trainee may be.
    • Ilka Riddle, PhD: Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, 2012 Young Professional Award Recipient
    • Jody Pirtle, PhD: AUCD Board Trainee Representative, Former LEND and UCEDD trainee, 2012 Anne Rudigier Award Recipient
  • 5:30pm: Speed Networking
Like speed dating, speed networking is an organized activity giving trainees a very brief time (90 seconds) to introduce themselves to other trainees in the room and find common interests.  This fast and fun opportunity to share your professional background and career goals is a great way for trainees to meet more trainees than with typical hallway interactions.

Bring your business cards if you have them!  Networking events such as the Conference and this session are only the beginning to forging strong and lasting professional relationships.  If you don't have a business card, ask your Training Director if your Center can supply some, or select from many free online services to use to develop your own business card. Business cards are an easy self-marketing tool, and it's a great way to keep track of who you have met during the conference. Turn the business card over to jot down notes about the person whose card you just received and a reminder to contact them in the future.
